Mathematics Faculty

HoF: Sue Robertson

Mathematics is required for a range of trades and tertiary courses such as nursing, psychology, economics, and the sciences – most students choose Achievement Standard courses including NCEA 2 Mathematics or Statistics, then NCEA 3 Calculus and Statistics.

Courses:
Mathematics (banded classes) Years 9-10
Mathematics (NCEA L1-2) Years 11-12
Mathematics (2 year NCEA L1 course) Years 11-12
Practical Mathematics Years 11-12
Mathematics with Statistics (modelling) Years 12-13
Mathematics with Calculus Year 13

In Years 9 and 10 banded classes cater for all students' ability levels.

Mathematics is compulsory until a minimum of 8 Level 1 credits have been obtained in Year 11 or 12. Practical mathematics courses at Years 11 and 12 are available for those unable to manage mainstream courses.

We operate a mentoring programme with Victoria University for Maori and Pacific Island students, and a unique education and research programme with Texas Instruments (Australia) Limited in the use of graphic calculators.
