About Us

Welcome to Wainuiomata High School

Wainuiomata High School is a multi-cultural, co-educational state secondary school with a roll of 860 students. We aim to meet the needs of diverse learners in a safe and creative environment as well as providing our students with excellent facilities, a modern curriculum and committed staff.

We want to make a positive difference in the lives of all students.

Our Vision - A place where excellent teaching and a passion for learning inspire young people to develop the values, competencies and knowledge needed to become life-long learners who positively contribute to society.

Te Pae Tawhiti - He kura whai whakaawe mō te hunga taitamariki mā te whakaako pakari me te ngākaunui ki te ako. Mā konā ka rea ōna uaratanga, ōna pūkenga me te mātauranga hei manu kai mātauranga, kia tū tangata ai rātou i roto i tēnei ao.

Our Values

Our School

Our Facilities Include:

  • An auditorium with facilities for performance of musical and stage shows.
  • A purpose-built student services centre.
  • Five computer laboratories.
  • A technology centre.
  • Two full size gymnasiums and weight-training facility.
  • A library with study and computer facilities.
  • Six science laboratories.

The school has well-developed systems to encourage students to perform at their peak and emphasises traditional values of respect, honesty, courtesy, cooperation and concern for others. Support systems assist students with their problems and concerns. We believe a school must take a holistic view of the individual, and we understand that a student cannot be an effective learner if distracted by personal, family or health problems. Wainuiomata High School is therefore a "full service" school with extensive pastoral support available.

The sense of warmth and caring that we emphasise is also seen in the community which takes pride in being a close knit and progressive town. Wainuiomata is located only 15 minutes from the city centre of Lower Hutt and 30 minutes from central Wellington. It was one of the earliest European settlements in the Wellington region and today is part of Lower Hutt City.

Wainuiomata is the gateway to the Rimutaka Forest Park. The area is rich in mountains, rivers and native bush walks.
