Kia Ora Wainuiomata High School students, staff and whanau

I am writing to inform you that our Tumuaki/Principal, Janette Melrose, is stepping down from her role immediately, following a terminal illness prognosis of 1-12 months.  It is now time for her to step aside to focus on her health and well-being, and to spend time with her whanau and friends.

Lea Vellenoweth, Deputy Principal, has been appointed as Acting Principal until a new Tumuaki/Principal takes office for the start of the 2024school year.

This will be upsetting news for many of our school whanau.  Our students will continue to be supported by our Guidance team, and our staff are being supported by EAP. Please contact the office if you or your student require additional support.

As Presiding Board Member, it is my paramount responsibility and commitment to ensure that Wainuiomata High School proceed in a transparent and respectful manner in terms of employing our next Tumuaki/Principal.

Ngā mihi nui,

Mailena Rawiri

Presiding Board Member
