Kia ora Wainuiomata High School whanau

I hope you are well, safe and doing ok in your bubbles.

Yesterday the Prime Minister advised that we will remain at Alert Level 4 until 11.59pm on 24 August. We will learn more on Monday about what will happen next. I wanted to reassure you that our school staff and board will continue to be available to support your child’s learning and wellbeing in the coming days.

There is no certainty that we will be coming out of Level 4 on Tuesday, therefore we have decided to get our school laptops out to students who do not have a device at home. This will enable students to continue with their learning online until schools are reopened and students are allowed back on site to learn.

The Ministry of Education has given schools permission to allow whanau to enter schools to collect devices. There will be strict Ministry of Health regulations around this.

Yesterday manaaki teachers contacted their students and found out who needed a device to learn from home. We now have a school wide list of students who need laptops, and these laptops will be ready to collect on Monday 23rd August from Wainuiomata High School.

The following times have been set aside to do this:

1. Apiata students 9:00am – 10:30am

2. Ngata students 10:30am – 12:00noon

3. Rutherford students 12:00noon – 1:30pm

4. Tuwhare students 1:30pm – 3:00pm

If these times are inconvenient for you, please turn up at any time between 9:00am – 3:00pm but you may have to wait a bit longer.

Only one person per whanau will be allowed to enter the school – that person will need to be wearing a mask and they will also need to sign in for contact tracing purposes. Please remain 2m away from all other people. Staff will be there to show you where to go.

We have designed a system where whanau enter school from the main office entrance and exit from the rear entry of the Admin block. This process has been designed to minimise contact with other people not in your bubble. You may be asked for identification – please don’t be offended if we ask for this – we don’t want to be giving out our school laptops to random people.

As always, please let us know if there is anything you need to support you and your whanau during this time. There will be school guidance staff available during the day on Monday between 9:00am – 3:00pm. Our school freezer has frozen meals which are available, and we also have a range of tinned food if you require any. We are here to help.

We will get through this and thanks for staying at home and following the Ministry of Health guidelines. Stay safe and be kind.

Ngā mihi,

Janette Melrose, Principal
