Wainuiomata High School is closed today due to severe weather conditions across Wainuiomata and the wider Hutt Valley.
This decision has been made to keep our students, staff, and community safe.
Flooding and Weather Update:
A Flood Warning is in place for Waiwhetu Stream and Konini Street.
Streets that may be impacted: Konini Street, Heather Grove, Riverside Drive, Bell Road, Rossiter Avenue, Hayward Terrace.
Surface flooding is present on several other streets due to high stream levels.
Waiwhetu Stream and Black Creek continue to rise and may rise rapidly with ongoing heavy rain.
If you see rising flood water, evacuate immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for an official warning.
Safety Guidance
Evacuate to friends or whānau if needed and take pets and essential items.
Call 111 if your life or property is at risk.
Do not drive or walk through flood water – it may be dangerous or contaminated.
If you are not in an affected area, please stay off the roads and avoid non‑essential travel.
Transport – Buses Replacing Trains
Due to weather-related track inspections, all rail lines will be closed during the AM peak.
Replacement buses will run, but services will be extremely limited and may only run hourly.

There are widespread outages affecting:
Stokes Valley, Wainuiomata, Maungaraki, Normandale, Korokoro, Petone, Alicetown, Belmont, Kelson, Manor Park.
